Sign a PDF
Add a visible signature without uploading the document.
Or drop one anywhere on this page
What to know about Sign PDF
Signing a document usually means handing it to someone: uploading a contract, an offer letter or a form to a website so it can put your signature on it. This does the same job without the upload. Draw your signature with a finger or a trackpad, type it, or use a photograph of one, then place it where it belongs and download the result. To be plain about what it is: this adds a visible signature to the page. It is not certificate-based digital signing, and it does not prove who applied it.
How to sign a PDF
- 1
Open the document
Choose the PDF or drop it here. It is read on your device, and no copy is sent anywhere.
- 2
Make your signature
Draw it, type your name and pick a style, or upload an image of a signature you already have.
- 3
Place it and save
Drag it where it belongs or set the position exactly, choose the page, then download the signed PDF.
What Sign PDF accepts and produces
- Input
- One PDF, and a signature you draw, type or upload.
- Output
- The same document with your signature drawn onto the page you placed it on.
- Limits
- This is a visible signature, not a cryptographic one. It does not certify who signed or prove the document has not changed since, and it will not satisfy a process that requires a digital certificate.
- Offline
- Yes, once the rendering engine has been fetched on your first visit.
Why Sign PDF here
- Draw, type or upload — three ways to make a signature, no account needed
- Place it precisely by dragging or by typing exact position and size
- Text, links, bookmarks and form fields all survive untouched
- The signature image never leaves your device
Where your file goes
Nowhere. This tool runs inside your browser, and the page is served with a policy that forbids it from sending your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and process a file.
Questions
Is this a legally binding digital signature?
No, and it is worth being exact about the difference. This places a visible signature — a picture of your handwriting — onto the page. A certificate-based digital signature is a different thing: it uses a private key issued to you, and it lets a recipient verify cryptographically that the document has not changed since you signed. This tool does not do that and does not claim to. Whether a visible signature is acceptable depends on the document and where you are; for anything requiring certified signing, use software built for it.
How is a visible signature different from certificate signing?
A visible signature is an image on the page: anyone can see it, and anyone could in principle copy it. Certificate signing attaches cryptographic evidence tied to an identity, which viewers check and report as valid or broken. Most everyday paperwork asks for the first. Anything that says it needs a digital certificate or a qualified signature needs the second.
Which ways can I create the signature?
Three. Draw it with a mouse, trackpad or finger; type your name and choose a style; or upload a PNG or JPEG of a signature you already have. A PNG with a transparent background sits most naturally on the page, since the paper shows through around the strokes.
Can I put the signature on a specific page?
Yes. Move to the page you want before placing it, and the signature is applied only there. Position and size can be dragged on the preview or typed as exact percentages, which is useful when a form has a signature box to land inside.
Does signing damage the rest of the document?
No. The signature is drawn onto the existing page rather than replacing it, so selectable text stays selectable, links keep working, form fields stay fillable and bookmarks are untouched. Nothing is rasterised or flattened.
What happens if the PDF is already signed by someone else?
Adding anything to a signed PDF invalidates its existing cryptographic signature — that is inherent to how those signatures work, not a limitation here. Because this modifies the document, a signed file raises a warning first so you can decide whether to continue.
Is my signature stored or uploaded anywhere?
Neither. The signature stays in the page's memory while you work and disappears when you close the tab. It is never written to storage, never placed in the address bar and never sent to a server. You can open the network panel and watch: nothing carrying the image goes out.
Can I sign a password-protected PDF?
Only after it has been unlocked. Encryption stops the page contents being read at all, so there is nothing to draw onto and nowhere to put the signature. Run the file through Unlock PDF first if you hold the password, then sign the copy that comes out.
Will the signature show up in every PDF viewer?
Yes. It becomes part of the page's content, in the same way any image in the document is, so it appears in any reader and prints as you see it on screen.
