What to know about Fill PDF Forms
A form you have to complete is usually a form full of things you would rather not hand to a stranger: your address, your date of birth, an account number, a signature block. This tool fills the fields the document already has, writing the answers into the form itself rather than painting them over the page, and it does the whole job inside your browser. The file you download is still a working PDF form, so whoever receives it can read your answers and correct a typo if they need to.
How to fill in a PDF form
- 1
Open the form
Choose the PDF or drop it here. Its interactive fields are found and listed beside the page.
- 2
Answer the fields
Type into text fields, tick checkboxes and pick options. Selecting a field shows you where it sits on the page.
- 3
Save the completed form
Download the finished PDF. It stays a fillable form, so nothing is locked or flattened.
What Fill PDF Forms accepts and produces
- Input
- One PDF with an interactive AcroForm.
- Output
- The same form with your answers filled in and the fields still editable, so a mistake can be corrected later.
- Limits
- XFA forms are refused rather than filled, because writing values into one produces a file that still looks empty. Push buttons, signature fields and multi-select lists are reported and left alone.
- Offline
- Yes, once the rendering engine has been fetched on your first visit.
Why Fill PDF Forms here
- Writes the form's real field values, not text painted over the page
- Text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdowns all supported
- The result stays fillable — nothing is flattened or locked
- Answers never leave your device, and are not stored after you close the tab
Where your file goes
Nowhere. This tool runs inside your browser, and the page is served with a policy that forbids it from sending your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and process a file.
Questions
How is this different from typing on top of a PDF?
Most free tools place text over the page as a drawing. It looks filled, but the form's fields are still empty, so the recipient's software shows a blank form and any validation on those fields never sees your answer. This writes the value into the field itself, which is what a form being filled actually means.
Can I fill a scanned document with this?
No, and no tool can without first adding fields to it. A scan is a picture of a page with nothing interactive in it. This tool works with PDFs that already contain form fields — the kind you can click into in a PDF reader. If yours has none, you will be told so rather than shown an empty editor.
Which field types are supported?
Text fields, checkboxes, radio button groups and dropdown lists. Other kinds — push buttons, signature fields and multi-select list boxes — are detected and reported, then left untouched. Filling a field type incorrectly is worse than not filling it, so those are never guessed at.
Is the downloaded PDF still editable afterwards?
Yes. The form is not flattened, so every field keeps its name, its type and its ability to be changed. Anyone you send it to can open it, read the values and correct one if it is wrong.
What happens to fields the form marks as read-only?
They are left alone. A read-only field is one the document's author locked deliberately, often a reference number or a pre-filled total, and overwriting it would quietly override their intent. Those fields appear on the page but cannot be edited here.
Why does my form say it cannot be filled?
Some PDFs use XFA, a different form format that stores its real definition as XML and needs Adobe software to complete. Writing ordinary field values into one produces a file that still looks empty, so those are refused with an explanation rather than processed into something broken.
Are my answers saved anywhere?
No. What you type stays in the page's memory and is gone when you close the tab. It is never written to storage, never put in the address bar, never included in an error message and never sent anywhere — which matters, because form answers are usually the most sensitive thing in a document.
Can I fill a password-protected form?
Not while it is protected. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF if you have the password, then fill the unlocked copy. A document that cannot be opened cannot have its fields read.
Does filling a form break its digital signature?
Changing a signed PDF invalidates the signature, which is inherent to how signatures work. Because this modifies the document, a signed file raises a warning before anything runs so you can stop and decide.
