Add text to a PDF
Type onto a page as real, selectable text.
Or drop one anywhere on this page
What to know about Add Text to PDF
Sometimes a document needs a line that is not in it: a date in a margin, a note beside a figure, a reference number at the top of a page that arrived without one. This adds that line as real PDF text — the kind you can select with a cursor, find with a search and copy out again — rather than as a picture of words pasted over the page. Choose where it goes and how large it is, and the whole thing happens on your own device.
How to add text to a PDF
- 1
Open the document
Choose the PDF or drop it here. It is read on your device and no copy is sent anywhere.
- 2
Type what you need
Enter the words, pick a size, then drag them into place or set the position exactly.
- 3
Save the result
Download the PDF with your text written into the page as selectable text.
What Add Text to PDF accepts and produces
- Input
- One PDF, and the text you want to place.
- Output
- The same document with your words added as real, selectable text — not a picture of text.
- Limits
- Text is drawn in a standard font, so characters outside the Latin alphabet and its accents cannot be placed. Existing page content is never rasterised.
- Offline
- Yes, once the rendering engine has been fetched on your first visit.
Why Add Text to PDF here
- Adds real PDF text, not an image — selectable, searchable and copyable
- Place it by dragging or by typing an exact position and point size
- Works on any page, including pages that are rotated
- Everything already in the document is left untouched
Where your file goes
Nowhere. This tool runs inside your browser, and the page is served with a policy that forbids it from sending your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and process a file.
Questions
Is the text I add real text or just a picture of it?
Real text. The words go into the page's content stream as text operators, which means a reader can select them, a search can find them, and copying the page copies them out. Many free tools draw an image of the words instead — it looks the same on screen and behaves quite differently the moment anyone tries to use it.
Can I put text on a rotated page?
Yes, and it comes out upright. The position you choose is mapped through the page's own geometry, so a page turned sideways receives the text where you placed it on screen rather than rotated along with the page.
Does adding text change anything else in the document?
No. The text is appended to the page rather than replacing it, so existing text stays selectable, images stay put, links keep working, bookmarks survive and form fields remain fillable. Nothing is rasterised or flattened.
Can I choose the font?
Not yet. The text is written with a standard built-in PDF font, which every viewer can render without embedding anything and which keeps the file small. It suits Latin text well; if you are writing in another script, check the downloaded file looks the way you intended.
How do I position the text precisely?
Type the position instead of dragging it. The distance from the left and from the top are given as percentages of the page, so the same values place text identically on every page of the same size — useful when you are stamping a reference in the same spot repeatedly.
Can I add several pieces of text at once?
One at a time in this tool. Run it again for another line — each pass adds to the document you downloaded from the last one, so several notes can be built up in sequence.
Will the added text be editable later?
It becomes ordinary page content, so it is not editable as a field or a note. Anyone with a PDF editor can still change it, in the same way they could change any other text on the page.
Does this work on a scanned document?
It will add your text on top of the scan, which works fine for a date or a note. What it cannot do is make the scan itself searchable — the picture underneath stays a picture.
Is my document uploaded?
It is not. Everything — opening the file, drawing the text, writing the new PDF — happens inside this tab, and the document is discarded when you close it. Watch your browser’s network panel while you work if you would like to confirm it, or disconnect entirely and see that the tool carries on.
