Crop a PDF
Trim margins and change the visible page area.
Or drop one anywhere on this page
What to know about Crop PDF
Scanned pages arrive with black borders. Slide decks carry footers nobody needs. A statement printed to PDF has two inches of white space above the only paragraph that matters. Cropping sets a new visible area for the page, so the document keeps its text, links and bookmarks exactly as they were and simply stops showing the parts you trimmed. It happens on your own device, and the file never leaves it.
How to crop a PDF
- 1
Open the PDF
Choose your file or drop it here. It opens on your device, with no copy sent anywhere.
- 2
Mark the area to keep
Drag a box across the page, or type how much to trim from each edge for an exact result.
- 3
Apply and save
Crop one page or every page, then download the file with its new visible area.
What Crop PDF accepts and produces
- Input
- One PDF, and the region to keep.
- Output
- The same document with the visible page area trimmed to your selection.
- Limits
- Cropping changes what is displayed, not what is stored: the content outside the crop is still in the file and can be revealed by widening the box again. Use Redact PDF to remove content.
- Offline
- Yes, once the rendering engine has been fetched on your first visit.
Why Crop PDF here
- Text stays selectable and searchable — nothing is rasterised
- Bookmarks, links, form fields and annotations all survive the crop
- Drag the region or type exact margins, whichever suits the job
- Crop a single page or apply the same area to the whole document
Where your file goes
Nowhere. This tool runs inside your browser, and the page is served with a policy that forbids it from sending your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and process a file.
Questions
Does cropping delete the content outside the area I keep?
No, and this is the one thing worth being clear about. Cropping sets the page's visible region; the material outside it stays in the file and a determined reader can bring it back. That is true of every PDF cropping tool, not just this one. If your aim is to make something unrecoverable, use Redact PDF, which rebuilds the page and destroys what was underneath.
Will the text still be selectable after cropping?
Yes. The page is not re-rendered or converted to an image — only the rectangle describing its visible area changes. Text stays selectable and searchable, at full quality, and everything the page linked to still works.
Can I crop just one page instead of the whole document?
Yes. Move to the page you want, mark the area, then choose whether to apply it to that page alone or to every page. Pages you do not include keep their original size, so a document can mix cropped and uncropped pages.
How do I crop precisely rather than by eye?
Type the trim for each edge as a percentage. The fields and the box on the page are the same setting shown two ways, so adjusting either updates the other, and typing gives you a repeatable result across documents.
What happens to pages that are rotated?
The area you mark is the area you get. Rotation is accounted for when the crop is applied, so a page turned sideways crops to the region you drew on screen rather than to a rotated version of it.
Does cropping reduce the file size?
Barely, and often not at all. Because the hidden content is still stored, the bytes stay much as they were. Compress PDF is the tool for size; cropping is for what the page shows.
Can I undo a crop?
Not from within this tool, but keep your original and you lose nothing. Since cropping only changes the visible region and the underlying content remains, a PDF editor that exposes page boxes can restore the full page from a cropped file.
Will cropping break a digital signature?
Changing a signed PDF in any way invalidates its signature — that is how signatures work rather than a limit of this tool. Because cropping modifies the document, a signed file raises a warning before anything runs so you can decide.
Is my file uploaded to crop it?
No. The page is read and rewritten inside your browser. Open the network panel while you crop and nothing carrying the document goes out; switch the network off entirely and the tool still works.
